The front of the "old" library building was demolished on Tuesday, in preparation for the major $8million upgrade of the 30-year-old building.

The area between the library and the Town Hall has been fenced off for several weeks, since the services were moved into the temporary site on Pall Mall.

Now, demolition work has begun on the redesign for two new entries and a cafe, with an internal walkway to link the existing building to a glass-walled extension.

The rebuild is expected to take about 18 months.
