Kmart and the Salvation Army are calling upon the Bendigo community to give to those in need this Christmas with the launch of the wishing tree appeal at Kmart’s Kangaroo Flat store.

The appeal, now in its 28th year, has seen more than six million gifts donated to those in need nation wide.

Kmart Kangaroo Flat store manager, Anthony Clark said it is the longest running Christmas appeal in Australia.

“It’s great for needy kids and families doing it rough,” he said.

In 2014, 1419 gifts were donated at the Kangaroo Flat store, with more than 390,000 donated across all stores, nationwide.

The gifts, collected each week by the Salvation Army will go to both children and adults in need.

“We’d like to encourage the local Bendigo community to come out and make a donation,” Mr Clark said.
