Some junior cricketers will go pink tomorrow, as Bendigo United’s Under 11A team takes part in the McGrath Foundation’s Pink Stumps Day.
The team received a $500 Pink Stumps Day Team Kit, including two sets of pink stumps, balls, wicketkeeping pads, caps and 100 pink tattoos – don’t worry parents, they’re temporary.
Team manager Wendy Sims, who registered the team, has raised more than $1000 so far through their online fundraising page.
“The kids will be playing in pink singlets on the day,” she said.
“I registered the team because it’s a great charity to support and the kids need to know more about it.”
Family and friends supporting the team on the day are encouraged to wear pink, and if the club raises the most funds, it will win a signed bat from the Australian cricket team.
Last year’s inaugural Pink Stumps Day involved 665 clubs, which raised over $550,000
All proceeds from the day will be donated to the McGrath Foundation to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia and to increase breast awareness in young women.
