BENDIGO'S youngest ever councillor will not run in the October elections.

Sandhurst Ward councillor, James Reade, 22, announced via twitter this afternoon he will not stand in the poll.

Acknowledging his colleagues at City of Greater Bendigo council, Mr Reade said he will move to Melbourne.

"I love Bendigo and have a wonderful experience being involved in council," he said.

"I plan to expand my business, travel and enjoy being 22."

Mr Reade said being a local councillor was a massive learning curve.

"Bendigo is booming, and it's important to stay focussed on strategic visions."

He said he felt surprised and humbled when he was elected four years ago.

"Being elected at my age says something about the Bendigo community and what kind of community we want to be," he said.

"There's a real role for young people (in local politics), and I strongly encourage young people to get involved."

"I love and have had a wonderful experience being involved in Council. I plan to expand my business, travel and enjoy being 22."
