THE Bendigo Traders' Association has given its tick of approval to the new playground design options for the Hargreaves Mall.

Three design options will be released this morning, and local children will have the chance to vote for them.

BTA president Ross White said he was impressed with what he saw.

"I am very excited by the three designs. I am very happy," he said.

"They are traditional, but with a modern twist.

"I thought to myself, 'that is is what we want – something quirky, colourful and something the kids will want to play on."

One of the designs is in the shape of a large dragon, with a trampoline in its tail.

"We are heading in the right direction," Mr White said.

Greater Bendigo Community Wellbeing director Pauline Gordon said it made sense  for the children to have a say in choosing the final design.

"All three designs will be distributed to 80 Prep and pre-schools throughout the municipality, which they should all receive by the end of the week," she said.

"Each design will have its own story attached and teachers will be telling the tales of each concept when they present the images to the children.

"The kids will then put a sticker on the one they like the best.

"Once the concept has been selected, the equipment will be ordered and installation is estimated to start before Easter."
