Library on the move

THE biggest problem facing library staff from their impending move is letting people know.

“Everything is going well, and we’re on track for the move at the end of August,” Goldfields Library Corporation chief executive Carolyn Macvean said.

“We’re just hoping people know where we are.”

Work has almost finished on a quick refurbishment of

the former Advertiser building at 96-98 Pall Mall, which the Bendigo library will take over for about 18 months from August 27.

“As a temporary space, this will work well,” Ms Macvean said.

“We’re trying to keep disruption to our services to a minimum.”

Most services will be contained on the ground floor, with the main entrance from Pall Mall.

The building at the rear, which fronts onto Hargreaves Street almost opposite the current library site, will also be used.

The Pall Mall building is currently up for sale, but would only be sold subject to a lease for the temporary library.
