A SPECIAL piece of music equipment is looking for a new home.
Roy Burke was a community-minded bloke, a local policeman who was devoted to the Anglican Church, loved the Elmore Field Days and ran countless Blue Light Discos at the Elmore pool.
Roy was also skilled as a drummer, keeping the beat with the Elmore Senior Citizens’ entertainment group, and the Rochester Entertainers Music Group.
His fans were people in nursing homes, hostels and day care centres, who adored his playing.
Sadly, Roy took ill in July, 2008 and spent the last two years of his life among his followers, at the Rochester Nursing Home.
On Thursday, May 12, 2011,
he caught pneumonia. Five days later he was gone. But he left
behind his loving partner of 39 years, Eileen, and his beloved drum kit.
“He loved his music, and he’d love somebody to enjoy his drum kit,” Eileen said.
Email Ben Cameron at bentertained@bendigoweekly.com.au in 50 words or less why your place would be a good home for Roy’s drum kit.
