Small business owner Greg Bickley has been chosen as the Liberal Party's candidate to contest the seat of Bendigo at next year's federal election.

Mr Bickley is expected to be officially endorsed by the party this week.

"I am very honoured to have won preselection for Bendigo," he said.

"I look forward to representing the people of Central Victoria and the Macedon Ranges as their local candidate."

Mr Bickley defeated Peter Wiseman and Jack Lyons for the position.

His main rival for the job, Labor candidate Lisa Chesters, congratulated Mr Bickley on his preselection.

"I am looking forward to a vigorous contest on policy and on our respective parties' track record here in Bendigo and Central Victoria.

Liberal Victoria director Damien Mantach said Mr Bickley was chosen by 120 delegates at the All Seasons Quality Resort on Sunday afternoon.

"I congratulate Greg and the other candidates for participating in the preselection process," he said.

"Greg will form an integral part of the Coalition team to take the fight up to Labor at the next federal election and ensure a better deal for all Victorians."

Mr Bickley owns Avalon Trading, a company that specializes in warehouse design and fit out.
