THE Grace Kelly: Style Icon exhibition was an economic boon for the City of Greater Bendigo council, as well as the community.

A report to be unveiled at next week’s council meeting reveals an operating surplus of $1.3 million for the exhibition.

Council attracted revenue of almost $3.3m for the event, on the back of a total expenditure of $1.9m.

More than 152,000 people viewed the exhibition.

The report praises the work of the Bendigo Art Gallery, The Capital and Bendigo Tourism, and more than 100 volunteers for making the event such a success.

The exhibition and its promotion was led by  Bendigo Art Gallery director Karen Quinlan and City Futures director Stan Liacos.

The report also revises the economic impact of the event to the city itself, with $15.3m trickling down to the community.
