BUSES will replace all Bendigo trains for 11 days from Friday night to allow the final major stages of the Sunbury Electrification Project to be completed.

The works will involve the installation and testing of new electrical and signalling equipment.

The closure will be the last major disruption to V/Line Bendigo line passengers ahead of its completion expected by the end of the year.

Unrelated Regional Rail Link work will result in other line closures, including the weekend August 11 and 12.

The closure will mean buses will replace all trains along the Bendigo line from 8pm Friday, July 27 until Tuesday, August 7.

V/Line Regional manager James Edmiston said due to the length of the closure a temporary timetable is now available for download from www.vline.com.au or can be collected from staffed stations.

“A mixture of express, semi-express and stopping-all-stations buses will run to get people to where they need to go,” he said.

V/Line will make the most of the closure and will complete some resleepering, tree trimming, and rail welding between Bendigo and Sunbury.

Bridge repair works between Bendigo and Echuca will be completed at the same time.

V/Line passengers are asked to allow at least an hour extra travel time during the closure.

“We know people will always prefer the train to the bus when travelling,” Mr Edmiston said.

“The last major shut of the Bendigo line in July 2011 ran smoothly due to the careful management of the buses.”

V/Line passengers with special needs are asked to call 1800-800-007 before travelling.

Last big shutdown did not really run smoothly for passengers at Kangaroo Flat because V/Line couldn't see it as part of Bendigo and put passengers on all-station stop buses instead of Bendigo express. Thankfully, efforts of commuters to have their case
heard by government have been heeded and this time V/Line is offering request stops at Kangaroo Flat for Bendigo express buses - they way it should be.
