A biography of the couple who designed Canberra has won the $20,000 National Biography Award.

Grand Obsessions: The life and work of Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin by Alasdair McGregor, took out the prize from a huge field of 58 entries, at the State Library of New South Wales today.

In what has been noted is a particularly strong year for biography, Grand Obsessions won ahead of: 
Alan The Red Fox Reid by Ross Fitzgerald and Stephen Holt
My Father's Daughter by Sheila Fitzpatrick 
Piano Lessons by Anna Goldsworthy 
Macquarie by Harry Dillon and Peter Butler
Playing with Fire: the controversial career of Hans J Eysenck by Roderick Buchanan
