A civic reception in Bendigo Town Hall honoured the Bendigo Youth Choir, which won three silver medals at the 2012 World Choir Games held in the United States last month.

In the presence of Premier of Victoria Ted Baillieu, Mayor Alex Sandner and Member for Western Victoria Wendy Lovell, the 30-member choir performed their own version of Waltzing Matilda, incorporating words sun in Indigenous languages.

One of six choirs invited to participate in Cincinnati, BYC achieved the best result for any Australian group.

"Our Choir and its young members work hard in their community and to receive this support for, and now the recognition of, the success of the tour is wonderful," president Mandy Cooper said.

BYC will perform as part of the celebrations in Federation Square on August 22 to welcome home Australia's Olympic Team.

They will also perform at the opening of the regional sitting of parliament in Bendigo on September 6.
