Beer drinkers spend many hours, and dollars, in search of the perfect beer with many resorting to making their own at home.
Overnight the garage is turned into a brewery with boilers, fermenters, bottles, bags of hops and barley and several “dead marines” occupying the space the family car once occupied.
Many brew at home because it’s cheaper but one of the main factors is the taste.
Two local blokes, Justin McPhail and Trev Birks, have been making craft beer for years and are confident Bendigo can develop a craft beer culture to rival that of Melbourne.
They are the driving force behind Bendigo Beer and the Annual Bendigo Beer Homebrew Competition with public tasting.
This year, Bendigo and Central Victoria’s best brewers will be at the Goldmines Hotel on Saturday, September 15 with beer o’clock at 3pm.
There are three prize categories including Judges’ Choice (including special industry guest judges), Most Out There Beer Award and Peoples Choice Award with a variety of beer styles for public tasting allowing the you to be the judge plus special beer industry guests on the day, including local craft brewers.
All homebrewers are welcome to enter their drop, email bendigobeer@gmail.com with your details and beer style.
