INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION FOR GALLERY

BENDIGO Art Gallery has secured a world-exclusive arts exhibition that will further cement the city's growing reputation as a leading cultural hub.

Premier John Brumby announced the gallery would next year host the world premiere of The White Wedding Dress: Two Hundred Years of Wedding Fashions from London's prestigious Victoria and Albert Museum. 

The exhibition will be the first in a new Bendigo International Collections series launched today, an exclusive series of exhibitions at the gallery supported through the State Government's major events strategy.

"Our government is determined to work in partnership with communities to drive a new era of opportunity and prosperity in regional and rural Victoria," he said.

"Securing the first worldwide showing of this exhibition is another major coup for the Bendigo Art Gallery.

"It is a testament to Bendigo's reputation as one of Australia's most prominent regional art galleries and builds on its previous successes in hosting internationally-acclaimed exhibitions."

Last year the Golden Age of Couture: Paris and London 1947 to 1957 at Bendigo Art Gallery attracted 75,000 people, including almost 55,000 Victorians from outside Bendigo region and over 500 visitors from interstate and overseas...
