in BENDIGO NEWS -

BENDIGO’S sights, sounds and attractions star in the first episode of the new season of popular ABC TV show Collectors on Sunday.

Andy, Gordon and Adrian filmed the episode during the week of the Bendigo Swap Meet in November.

While the show centres on the swap meet, it also takes a look at the city’s past, its attractions and some of its characters.

Well-known collector Ken Arnold is interviewed and viewers will see part of his amazing collections.

Adrian boarded the Talking Tram for a tour of Pall Mall and took a tour of the Central Deborah mine.

The Golden Dragon Museum was also featured, as was the Bendigo Pottery.

Local collector Andrew Brown shared his vast collection of cameras and watches and Andy stumped Adrian and Gordon with his

mystery object.

City of Greater Bendigo City Futures director Stan Liacos

said the show’s focus on the city was significant.

“It provides our community with highly credentialed publicity spread to a national audience,” he said.

“Its screening on Sunday will strengthen our reputation as one of Australia’s most distinctive regional cities, and a community that while contemporary in attitude proudly respects and showcases its history, heritage, arts and culture.

“This not only enhances our sense of civic pride, but importantly leads over time to attracting more visitors and in building

a stronger brand identity in an otherwise competitive tourism market.

“It is one thing for locals to love Bendigo the place and what it stands for, but it’s a handy

thing for the rest of Australia to know this too.”

The Collectors airs in its new timeslot of Sundays at 6.30pm on ABC1
