Four on the trot

JUBILANT: Bendigo Bombers players celebrate in the rooms after their 26-point win over Gold Coast last Saturday.

THE Bendigo Bombers scored a fighting 26-point win over Gold Coast at the Queen Elizabeth Oval last Saturday to maintain their place in the top four on the VFL ladder.
It was the club’s fourth straight victory and Essendon rookie-listed player Marcus Marigliani was clearly best afield with 30 possessions and three goals.
The former Frankston midfielder has lost more than five kilograms since becoming a professional footballer at Windy Hill this season.
Former Hawthorn forward Mark Williams showed a welcome return to form booting four goals after being used sparingly off the bench.
Other good players for Bendigo were Cloke, Flaherty and Jetta.
In the rooms after the match, Bombers coach Shannon Grant said the team had to overcome a slow start to the match but he was happy to collect the four points.
‘’We just did not move the ball as well as we have been but as the game went on we just wore them down,” he said.
“There is still plenty of footy to be played this season and we will continue to improve. We also saw a great performance from first gamer Matt Ladson of Kerang who has a great future ahead of him.”
The Bombers and the Gold Coast will do battle again later in the season when the Bombers head north to play in Cairns on Saturday, July 17.
