I WILL be hosting my 14th children’s party this weekend.  Yes, I know, when I did the math (eight plus six) I realised I must be getting on. 
The demise of the home party is a shame.  I know when everyone’s busy it’s nice to be able to go to a party destination where everything is done for you and leave all the mess behind.  But it’s the sense of community and welcoming that disappears which makes me a bit sad. 
Inviting people into your home allows new friendships to be formed. 
I encourage parents to stay on and make yummy extra food to tempt them.
It’s not just that either.  My kids have more fun planning their parties and getting ready on the day than they do at the actual party.  It’s the memories of creating they really love.
We keep coming up with ways of making them something a bit different. The kids have become a bit obsessed with Bollywood of late.  
What’s not to love when you’re a kid? Bright and impressive clothing, breaking out into song and dance regularly and the whole street joining in.  It’s like Blues Brothers for kids. 
As such, we had a Bollywood party for the eight year old last year, so this weekend the soon-to-be-six year old wants one too.
