Today the city has become a thriving retail and service centre for North Central Victoria. Beautifully laid out, the city boasts magnificent Victorian Architecture and is the only non metro centre still having operational trams. Located 150km by road from Melbourne the growth rate of the district is well above the state average. Bendigo is now the third largest city in Victoria with a population of 100,000.
